Workdays
Why a Work Day Ministry?
When New City Fellowship started in 1992, the initial team of pastors and members
went into the West End community and helped an elderly
widow
work on her home. Why?
The Lord says, "I command you, saying, 'You shall freely open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land" (Deuteronomy 15:11). God's word commands us to "visit orphans and widows in their distress" (James 1:27). The Work Day Ministry is designed to equip the body of Christ to serve the poor and needy of St. Louis.
How Do We Serve the Poor?
On Work Days volunteers directly assist widows, orphans, immigrants and refugees. Volunteers also come alongside the various ministries of Restore St. Louis and other ministries that work in inner-city settings in St. Louis. Work Day volunteers do the following:
- Work on widows' homes
- Visit immigrant and refugee families and help them with errands
- Sort clothing or pickup/deliver furniture for the Free Store
- Help single moms with moving
- Visit and sing with residents of a city nursing home
- Service cars as part of the Auto Ministry
Although volunteers work on a "project", the priority of the Work Day is to build relationships between the volunteers and those they are assisting. Our desire is to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness as we do Spirit-led deeds of justice and mercy and proclaim Jesus as Savior and Lord.
As an outreach ministry of Restore St. Louis, the Work Day Ministry is a collaboration of resources between New City Fellowship members and groups from other local churches, schools, etc. New City Fellowship generously provides, at no charge, their dining area, tools and equipment, and other resources. See this chart to illustrate the relationship of Restore St.Louis to New City Fellowship.

etc. Lunch is provided. Plan on being available until 2:00 p.m.
South City, East St. Louis, and St. Charles sites are also active. Please e-mail Andrew Stern if you would like to volunteer for one of these sites.
How You Can Help
We are always in need of additional volunteers to serve in various ways:
- Help provide breakfast and/or lunch for the volunteers
- Come and work at the Work Day
- Evaluate and prepare a work site
- Follow-up with the people served
As you can imagine, in order to make your participation as meaningful and effective as possible, it is critical for the leaders to anticipate your appearance and number expected. Please e-mail Andrew Stern two weeks before the Work Day with an approximate number of people who are coming, or simply complete the appropriate registration form.
If you are bringing a youth group, please make sure and have one adult for every 5 youth (volunteers must be at least 10 years old). Youth groups must have their own transportation in groups of approximately 5. Work teams may get finished with their work at different times, so leaders should be aware of this. All participants must wear hard-soled workboots.
For your convenience, please complete one of the following forms: If you are coming by yourself please fill out the individual form only. If you are coming as part of a group, please fill out the group form only.
