New City Development Corporation
History
New City Development Corporation (NCDC) was established in 1999 as a non-profit corporation under the laws of the state of Missouri and was established as a separate 501(c)3 corporation by New City Fellowship of St. Louis to further facilitate racial and cultural reconciliation and participate in the rebuilding of St. Louis.
In partnership with other local organizations and ministries, NCDC has provided quality homes, job training, home repair, and general community and economic development for the West End and Hamilton Heights neighborhoods of St. Louis city.
NCDC has restored homes in the West End neighborhood for 15 low- and low/moderate-income families and has built new homes on vacant properties for 10 families. These homes have not only contributed to the economic development of the community, but they have also provided a training ground for the carpenter's apprentices, Harambee youth, and volunteers who worked on them. Far beyond being just "housing", these are homes for the families who now own them.
Today
Although NCDC is no longer building new homes, the commitment to job & construction trades training and community development remains. The name of the not-for-profit organization has been legally changed to Harambee Youth Training Corporation, and Harambee continues to mentor and train youth from these neighborhoods while providing free tuckpointing services to community homeowners who are on a low, fixed income.
